Public comment for Permanent Ceasefire at the SFBoS
Brandon’s Note: This is my public comment at the San Francisco Board of Supervisors meeting for permanent ceasefire in Gaza.
Dear President Peskin and Board Members, most of you know who I am. My name is Brandon Lee. I was born and raised in d4, the outer sunset.
I barely survived an attempted assassination on my life for defending the Igorot indigenous peoples of the Philippines land and life in 2019. This board of supervisors unanimously came to my defense and condemned the Philippine military for that attack. The Board’s public stance on the side of the people have a global impact and your actions make a difference. I am proof of that.
Today, I come before you once again to Stand with my Palestinian indigenous brothers and sisters to ask every Board Member to support the resolution for permanent ceasefire as it is written and send an unequivocal message that San Francisco stands against genocide.
I want to remind the board: There is no “pause” to genocide, there is only stopping it.
At least 15,000 Palestinians have been killed by Israel’s bombing and ground campaign since Oct 9th. This includes at least 8,000 children.
Over 1.7 Million people in Gaza have been displaced by Israel in the last 6 weeks.
The only way to end the suffering is for our City to join the millions of people across the country and the world in calling for a permanent ceasefire and a political solution to this violence. ###
